Today is the day!

One night, as I was walking out of my closet, Yahweh said to me, “Tomorrow is the Day!” It was very loud, and it was very clear. In fact, God’s voice was so loud and clear that I turned my head to look back into the closet, from where I thought the voice came from. It was the first time that I had ever heard God’s voice audibly, instead of hearing his voice coming from within my spirit.

I had just finished watching a movie with my family, and at the time the only thing on my mind was how tired I was. I was exhausted from my day, and I was excited to finally be going to bed. So God's audible word to me, on this night, was shocking. As I reeled to try to figure out what exactly God meant by this bold statement, my mind immediately went to fear. I kept asking God, “Tomorrow is the day for what? Tomorrow is just a Thursday, like every other Thursday. You can’t just keep me hanging. Tomorrow is the day for what?”

So . . . after painstakingly playing out all the tragic events in my mind that could possibly happen on any given day, and praying for safety through the blood of Jesus for all of my family and friends, I was finally able to fall asleep. But in the morning, God’s words began again. However, His statement changed. Now what I kept hearing in my spirit was “Today is the Day!” God's voice was still very loud and clear.

Again I asked Yahweh, “Today is the day for what? What exactly do you mean?” Now, I had previously told God that I really liked surprises, and had asked God at one point in our journey together if he could surprise me every once in a while. Ever since I made that request, God has been surprising me, as his heart desires, but that didn’t mean that I wanted to know ahead of time when something was going to happen.

So on this particular morning, after my children and husband all made it to school and work, with no accidents, I was able to breath a little easier. But the thought was still there. Today is the Day! Today is the Day! Today! So, I asked Yahweh, “What is so important about Today?

Whenever a word comes to me from God, and I don’t understand it, I immediately go to my Bible for enlightenment. I have come to understand with my whole being that the Bible is God’s truth, and it is therefore the first place I always go. The verse that immediately came to my mind can be found in the book of Hebrews.

“Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains…Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, again he sets a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, “Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later of another day. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God; for whoever enters God’s rest also ceased from his labors as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, that no one fall by the same sort of disobedience.” (Hebrews 4:1a, 6-11 RSV)

As I was contemplating this verse, I kept hearing what my mom used to say so long ago when a certain day I had all been waiting for had finally arrived. Whether it was the first day of vacation, or my birthday, or Christmas, she would wake me up with such enthusiasm, and say, “Today is the Day!” I would get so excited. What a way to wake up to the world, knowing that, “Today is the Day!” I knew on those days that something exciting and out of the ordinary was going to happen. It wasn’t just going to be another routine, boring day, like so many. “Today” was guaranteed to be special.

So I continued to look in scripture for more clues…

And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. Yahweh will fight for you, and you have only to be still.” (Exodus 14:13-14 RSV)

Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahweh.”
(Exodus 16:25 RSV)

And Moses said, “Today you have ordained yourselves for the service of Yahweh, each one at the cost of his son and of his brother, that he may bestow a blessing upon you this day.” (Exodus 32:29 RSV)

“See, I have set before you TODAY, life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love Yahweh your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and Yahweh God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to do in and possess. I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love Yahweh your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.” (Deuteronomy 30:15-20a RSV)

You see every day we wake up to this life we have choices to make. We either choose life and good, or death and evil. We choose to either serve our Lord and Savior, or we serve idol gods. We either go about making our own decisions, or we continually ask God for his will in our life. And because of our choices, our days either turn out to be filled with peace and blessings, or they turn out to be ones filled with frustration and curses.

What God wants us to know is that every day can be that one special “Today,” if you give each one of your days to Him. Each day can be filled with hope and promise. Each day can be that day, when you wake up thrilled because you know for certain, “Today is the Day.”

Here is what Yahweh wanted me, and you, to know about this extraordinary day called “Today.”

Today is the day I want you to call on My Name!

Today is the day I want you to trust me with your life!

Today is the day I want you to listen to my voice!

Today is the day I want you to run to me with your arms wide open!

Today is the day I want you to open your heart up to my love!

Today is the day I want you to let me teach you my ways!

Today is the day I want you to serve me in my Kingdom!

Today is the day I want you to follow my Son Jesus in all that you do!

And when you do this…

Today is the day I will feed you and bless you!

Today is the day I will fight your enemies!

Today is the day you will feel my grace and mercy!

Today is the day I will do something extraordinary in your life!

Today is the day you will hear my voice!

Today is the day I will embrace you in my outstretched arms!

Today is the day you will feel my unconditional love!

Today is the day I will give you rest!

Today is the day I will give you life!

You see “Today” is a day like no other. “Today” is God’s day. It is a day that your Creator, your Lord, and your Savior wants, more than anything, to spend with you.

May you all have a blessed “Today”!!!
